Barberry is a plant whose fruit is used by Iranians in food, as a drink, and in the form of jam and syrup. These sour and delicious seeds have many properties and are very useful for the body. Research has shown that barberry has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties and prevents the occurrence of fungal and bacterial infections by preventing the attachment of bacteria to human body cells.
Barberry is effective in treating sore throat, nasal congestion, treating sinusitis, and improving bronchitis and common respiratory problems. Also, some traditional doctors use this fruit to treat inflammations and skin infections caused by Candida albicans fungus.
Iran is the largest producer of barberry in the world, among which South Khorasan province produces 95% of the world's barberry.
